With a good public bus system and great Old Town streets for strolling or cycling, getting around town is not a big problem. Cars are not allowed in Old Town but taxis are available in the rest of the city, starting at RMB 7. Bike rentals are around RMB 30 a day.
To and from Lijiang
Several domestic flights a day from Lijiang Airport (Jīchǎng, 机场), 25 km (15 mi) outside the city, accommodate the city's growing number of travelers. Direct flight destinations include Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Chongqing, Jinghong, Kunming, Shenzhen and Xi'an.
Lijiang's main bus terminal (Kèyùnzhàn, 客运站) lies at the southern end of Minzhu Lu (Mínzú Lù, 民族路) with another station near Old Town. The express bus station (Gāokuài Kèyùnzhàn, 高快客运站) is on Shang-ri La Dadao (Xiānggélǐlā Dàdào, 香格里拉大道). Travelers can buy bus tickets at any of the stations but need to check the ticket to see which station the bus leaves from. Buses run regularly to surrounding areas.
Lijiang Train Station (Huǒchēzhàn, 火车站) is 5 km (3 mi) from Dayan Old Town. One train leaves for Dali at 2:30pm and three leave for Kunming at 8:30am, 8:56pm and 9:50pm.
