Jiuxiang

Admission:

RMB 90

Hours:

8am-6pm daily

How to get there:

Located 47 km (29.2 miles) from Yiliang county town (Yīliǎng, 一两), the scenic area is about 80 km (50 mi) from Kunming. The best way to get there is to take a bus from the Kunming Railway Station, which costs about RMB 15 and takes 2 hours. Another option is to hire a car, which costs around RMB 300 for a whole day. Ask for details on how to rent a car at your hotel or hostel.

Juixiang Scenic Area (Kūnmíng Jiǔxiàng Fēngjǐngqū, 昆明九乡风景区) is perhaps most famous for its extensive series of caves, loaded with ancient Yi minority myths (hire a local tour guide to hear some of the stories) and featuring an underground waterfall. Local villages and an impressive view of a scenic gorge round out the highlights of this area which lies 80 km (50 mi) from Kunming. There is a lot to see, so don't hesitate to spend an entire day taking in the countryside.
