expensive supermarket If you're living in China and planning a stay-cation for the upcoming Spring Festival break, you're likely to be headed to your closest imported-product-friendly big-name supermarket to stock up the cupboards before the city closes down for the week. Well, if you've got Carrefour or Wal-Mart in your sights, be sure to pay attention to the total as both of these international retail giants have recently been busted for over-charging their customers and under-paying their staff. Apparently the salaries of over 6,000 employees at about twenty Carrefour stores in Shanghai have barely changed in the last decade while the average salary of Shanghai workers more than tripled during the period and the cost of living has rocketed. With big, international companies behaving like this, no wonder there are so many migrant workers who struggle to make their way home for Spring Festival—even if they could get a train ticket, they couldn't afford to pay for it!
