So, the Year of the Rabbit has now begun, but what does that mean exactly?
Well for starters, it means anyone born between now and January 23, 2012 (and those born in 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, 1927, 1915, 1903) will be endowed with the qualities attributed to the zodiac bunny. They will be articulate, talented and ambitious yet virtuous and reserved. Business-savvy, rabbits also have a lucky streak and make good gamblers though you can always rely on them to do the right thing—they never back out of a contract.
As for the outlook for the year, it seems things are already looking good for pet shop owners as sales of bunnies boom across the country with a cute little Flopsy, Mopsy or Bobtail making for the ultimate CNY accessory. On the flip side, it's unlikely to be a great year for the rabbits themselves who may well be cast aside or neglected once their owners tire of them—remember folks, a rabbit is not just for Spring Festival!
According to the Wayang Times it's also set to be "an unfavorable year" with "at least some uncertainties and continued troubles carried over from the Year of the Tiger" for those of us without long ears and whiskers. Yikes. Moonslipper however, takes a somewhat more positive note telling us that "Most Rabbit years are quiet, positive and inspiring... Overall, it should be a fun and relatively peaceful year. Even though aggression, violence and war zones will still be in evidence, the Chinese Rabbit year favors peaceful solutions and diplomacy, so there will be a feeling that all is not lost and that hope is still very much alive."

Of course, on a personal level, it's far more complicated than that with each animal facing it's own destiny according to its relationship with the rabbit year. To go into all of that in more detail you'll want to get a look at some Chinese zodiac horoscope and predictions of life, love and fortune to see what lies in store for you in particular.
Though generally considered a lucky sign, rabbits themselves should take care this coming year. 2011 is a "metal rabbit" year which makes for some bad feng shui and evil stars lurking around. However, don't despair, according to A Guide to Asia, start the year off right by having good relationships with those around you and "having more friends than enemies. Maintaining good harmony with the people around you will allow the rabbits to attract positive stars in 2011." Sounds like pretty good advice for us all!
Talking of stars however, Taiwanese celebrity fortune-teller Chan Wei-chung has been making some predictions for the other variety with famous rabbits Angelina Jolie, Zac Efron from "High School Musical," "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie all set to make more money this year. Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp will not be having it so good with predictions of pressure, stress and scandal afoot.
