A game of ups... and downs

Following on from an entertaining afternoon of classic board game Snakes & Ladders at Ctrip HQ in Shanghai on 25 February (a big congratulations to winner Nicolas Fernadez who took home the grand prize of RMB 5,000 Ctrip coupons), Ctrip is now taking the game online. Starting today, 10 players selected at random from customers who made a hotel booking between 14 December 2012 and 15 February 2013 will be facing off on Facebook for the big win—RMB 1,500 Ctrip coupons... that's a round trip flight to many China destinations or a night or two in a swanky hotel. More after the jump.... This is the final leg of their Year of their Snake celebrations to mark the Chinese New Year and reward loyal customers who didn't make it through to the real life game with another chance to win. For those not familiar with this childhood favorite, Snakes &  Ladders is a game of chance based on the throw of a die. Players must work their way around the board, helped along by ladders and hindered by snakes. As throwing a die online is no mean feat, to determine the number of moves each players can make in this version, they must first play a game of hide and seek with Yoyo, the Ctrip mascot. Every morning at 9am (China Standard Time), an image of a famous China landmark will appear on the Ctrip Facebook page.  The picture is divided into a grid of 12 squares and there are six Yoyos placed at random behind them. Players have to submit six guesses and the number of correct squares equals their turn (e.g., if the player guesses 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 and Yoyo appears behind 3, 4 and 5, the player moves three places). Yoyo's position will be revealed daily at 6pm. Why not play along? We'll be watching as the drama unfolds and so can you—visit the Ctrip Facebook page for more info. Shanghai Formula 1 tickets
