Great wall music festival_fatboy slim_norman cook_2011 We posted last week about the China music festival season winding down for a while, but it seems we may have overstated the case. Drums, guitars and Badaling stretch of China's most iconic landmark, the Great Wall. With none other than big beat master Fatboy Slim headlining the event, the Great Wall Electronic Music Festival is bound to be a blast. Ol' Norman knows how to work the crowd—at his Big Beach Boutique II, a free concert on the beach of his home town of Brighton, the atmosphere was electric and the seething mass of people (250,000 instead of the predicted 60,000) partied like their lives depended on it. Believe me, I was one of them... best party EVER. So on June 11 it's tourists out and cool kids in at Badaling. It's unlikely crowds will be reaching such epic proportions—tickets start at  RMB 350 including the bus from Beijing, which is a bit steep for the average Chinese college-aged kid, but for many a music fan, it's a small price to pay to dance your way into a piece of electro-history while dancing on a piece of actual history. More info on the lineup, directions and tickets can be found at camping on the Great Wall, but for those looking for a real roof over their heads, booking a hotel in Beijing is probably a better option.
