Ctripper: Intern Diaries—Meet Chris Higgs

Ctrip Ctripper posts come to us directly from the good folks at Ctrip, China's top online travel agency (and proud sponsor of ChinaTravel.net). Stay tuned for Ctrip special offers, travel tips, news on new travel deals, tours and activities, and slices of life-in-China from Ctrip staff and interns. Meet Chris, our new intern, as he dives into adapting the Chinese way of life with a "ni hao" in one hand and acting skills in the other .... >>> Do you like insane taxi drivers, street vendors selling questionable looking food, and having people constantly stare at you? Then you’ll love China! My name is Chris Higgs. I’m a student at Indiana University from the ‘burbs of Chicago, IL and this summer I decided to come half way around the world. Why? To learn about a new culture, gain some work experience in a study abroad type deal, and most of all: be out of my element. I have already been to Europe so I knew China could offer me an experience like none other, and two months sounded like the perfect amount of time. Right now I am an intern at the best travel site around, Ctrip.com. I work in the English website department doing the dirty work that keeps the big guys going; I like to think of it as the oil to the engine. Coming to Shanghai, my Chinese vocabulary extended to “你好” (ni hao), but I’ve managed to get around through the art of signing along with a hint of acting. Needless to say it has been quite an experience, living, learning, and observing, and the best is still to come. In this blog series, you’ll get to follow along as a China newbie takes on Shanghai and has all the experiences that many of you may be familiar with for the very first time. Welcome to My China. My way!
