Navigating the streets of Shanghai with the language skills of a 2 year-old, passing chicken feet on the street, aquariums in the super markets and naked children running wild, where taxi cabs, scooters, bikes, rickshaws, and anything with wheels offer to take you deep into the heart of the city …
That was my experiences as a college student entering the heart of Shanghai for the first time.
My name is Alex Leitzes. I am entering my senior year at the Indiana University, home of the Hoosiers (don’t ask me what a “Hoosier” is; nobody really knows). I was born in New York City and now live outside Philadelphia. You may be asking yourself why I chose Shanghai, and I’ll tell you: I never got the opportunity to go abroad during my first 3 years of college, so when I was offered the chance to work in China, take classes, and immerse myself in a new culture I jumped right on board. I have been in Shanghai for almost a month and a half now, but I am still faced with new challenges and exciting adventures each and everyday. Tune in each Tuesday for weekly reports as I continue to navigate through one of the largest cities in the world.
