Charming Uighur old men, Yarkant Just try not smiling with these two fellows. Won't work. These Uyghur gentlemen were spotted having a good old time in Yarkand, which sits between Kashgar and Hotan in a fertile oasis at the southern border of the Taklamakan Desert. Once a stop on the Silk Road, Yarkand (also spelled Yarkant, or called Shāchē Xiàn, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has been growing quickly in recent years, like so much of China. The Altyn Mosque (Āqíndiàn Qīngzhēnsì, 阿勤电清真寺) marks Yarkand's old Uyghur town... [more after the jump].
