Peking University West gate With the fearsome-looking Fu Lion and eerie red lighting, this looks more like the gate to the underworld than the gate to one of China's most renowned universities. It is, in fact, the famous West Gate at Peking University which is best known for the beautifully painted murals on the ceiling inside. Located in northwest Beijing's Haidian district, Peking University is known for its architectural wonder as well as its academic prowess. The former site of the Qing Dynasty royal gardens, Peking University campus is filled with traditional Chinese-style buildings, gardens and pagodas. This image was shared on the China Daily website by a former Peking University student, Jay Su.
