Red is the main color used in Chinese New Year celebrations. As well as symbolizing joy, virtue, truth and sincerity, the mandarin word for “red”--( 紅)  “hong” in Mandarin (Hakka: Fung; Cantonese: Hoong)--also means prosperous making it an all-round lucky color.
