Zhaoxing Guizhou

No matter where you are in the world, kids'll make a playground out of just about anything and this old firetruck is no exception.

Taken in the gorgeous Dong village of Zhaoxing eastern Guizhou, what you can't see is that beyond this dusty, rock-strewn yard there's a parade going on. It's been going on all day, the machine-gun crackle of firecrackers echoing non-stop around the valley as hordes of villagers, clad in the traditional indigo garb of the Dong, march through among their wooden houses in honor of the ox, a symbol of luck and success.

These kids were taking a break from the festivities and the deafening noise when I stumbled across them, clambering about on the village fire truck... presumably out of use though with so many fireworks and so much wood around, it could easily just be temporarily off-duty.
