beijing summer palace, pavilion ceiling When visiting China's many beautiful pagodas and temples, it always pays to look up—you'll be greeted with intricate, geometric timber framework painted in vibrant hues of red, blue and green. This particular example shows the ceiling of a pagoda at the Summer Palace in Beijing. It comes courtesy of Michael Charles, a.k.a. Gundalero on Flickr, and is an entry in the Ctrip China Travel Photo Contest. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Michael spent just under three years teaching English in Xi'an. He traveled China in his free time, trying to experience as much of the culture as possible and all the pictures he took along the way serve to remind him of his stay in this wonderful country. He is currently back in his home country of Trinidad and Tobago, but he hopes to come back soon. And based on the quality of his pictures, we hope he gets the chance to! In the meantime, you can enjoy more of Michael's China memories at his Flickr photostream, or head to our Flickr ctrippic contest page for more great China travel photos.
