Yanguan qiantang river tidal bore 2010 We spotted this bit of creative balloon sculpting in Yanguan over the weekend while down there to see the famous Qiantang River tidal bore. 60km from Hangzhou, Yanguan is one of the most well-known spots along the river to catch this giant wave that rushes in from the sea and surges inland, taking the river from low to high tide in a matter of moments. The natural phenomenon reaches a peak during the Mid-Autumn festival and thousands upon thousands gather in this small riverside town in Zhejiang to watch it go by. The surrounding town revels  in its few days of glory with street parties, food, (very loud techno) music, makeshift tattoo parlors, medicine men and all kinds of entertainment stalls where you can throw a hoop or a ball and win yourself a slightly graying giant teddy bear or a homemade glass trophy!
