Langham Xintiandi Grand room

You might not have heard about it, but if you've driven around Shanghai lately you've probably seen it. In fact, the hotel's distinct window walls, whose stylized latticework evoke the organic tessellations of a tiled desert floor are responsible for more than a few double takes. If you're anywhere in the vicinity of People's Square, Xintiandi, Huaihai Road or driving along the city's main artery, the Yan'an Road elevated highway, look for it, because The Langham Xintiandi Shanghai is pretty much impossible to miss.

The hotel, which quietly opened with an initial offering of 54 rooms on October 15, now serves as Xintiandi's north gateway, its distinctly modern lines a stylish counterpoint to Xintiandi's updated 1920's shikumen (stone gate) lane houses. As you can see from the pictures, Langham Xintiandi guestrooms showcase beautiful, understated design elements, Langham's trademark palette of dark timbers, and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over Xintiandi's pretty lanes. Hi-tech diversions are right at your fingertips with 40-inch flat-screen televisions, interactive digital audio systems including iPod docking stations and wireless broadband in every room.

Though not all of the hotel's dining outlets and facilities are open, you can definitely swing by and enjoy a delicious RMB 150 lunch buffet (as I did—do try the scallop and shrimp salad, and raspberries in cream!) or RMB 290 dinner buffet in the hotel's lobby level Cachet restaurant, before going on to explore all of Xintiandi's upscale shopping delights and superb restos.

If you're in Shanghai for business—you're in luck. The Langham Xintiandi Shanghai is currently offering full day packages, including Grand Room accommodations, eight hours of meeting room use and other practical resources for just RMB 1,865 per person.

Running on a tighter schedule? No worries, the hotel is also offering half-day packages starting at just RMB 600 per head (valid through March 2011). If your business is just pleasure, the Langham is also offering Grand Rooms for RMB 2,700 a night, including return airport limousine transfers, a welcome gift, breakfast, unlimited laundry and dry cleaning, complimentary mini-bar, wireless internet and international Skype calls (minimum 2 nights) until December 30.
